Martin Ruffles first became involved in VAT in 1976 whilst working for HM Customs & Excise. In 1988 Martin moved from HM Customs & Excise to join BDO Binder Hamlyn as a VAT Manager in their Manchester offices. In 1995 BDO Binder Hamlyn was acquired by Arthur Andersen and Martin headed a large team of VAT professionals in his role as Senior Manager. In 2002 Martin left Arthur Andersen to set up Ruffles & Co and has provided many clients with assistance in resolving VAT problems covering a range of issues. Martin has gained particular experience in the fields of VAT relating to finance, insurance and insolvency. Taking on HM Revenue & Customs in the Tax Tribunals and the higher courts has resulted in many successes, with one client receiving a refund of just under £7M in overpaid VAT. With 33 years of experience in VAT Martin provides a level of experience and expertise second to none in the Manchester region.
