Being asked to arrange a trip of this scale was a genuine honour. It also came with real responsibility. Delegation travel has a lot of moving parts: tight timelines, multiple stakeholders, and the need for everything to run smoothly so the group can focus on the purpose of the visit.
A key part of making it work was the close collaboration with key members of the Chamber (it was a pleasure to work with Danny on this, who is a fantastic leader and tremendous support, and Stacey who's organisational skills and planning are exceptional). Working together on the detail — flight options, schedules, accommodation, and practical requirements on the ground — was crucial in developing and finalising an itinerary that met the group’s objectives, as well as the changes that occurred part way through!
This is where my organisational and problem solving approach was key. Throughout the booking process, there were challenging moments that needed quick decisions, clear communication, and calm problem-solving. I’m proud of how those hurdles were handled, keeping the trip on track and ensuring the delegation trip was completed as planned despite issues caused by outside parties.
Most importantly, the trip itself was a success. It supported positive work for the businesses involved and helped create valuable momentum for future collaboration. The relationships and connections made during the visit will continue to open doors going forward, and it’s a privilege to have played a central role in making that possible and helping Sheffield to move closer to its true potential.
