• I've worked a lot in the creative sector over the years, from fire shows to website building, and you might not think "engagement" is an issue with people who earn a living doing what, for most of us, is at best a hobby.

But apart from the truism that what you do for money you can't fully do for love, the assumption that everyone is diving in and getting on with the job happily is a dangerous one. Often, trouble erupts suddenly and catastrophically for lack of a simple, formal supervision and review system, underpinning the creative processes with clear direction and accountability. It's not that difficult to set up, with the right support, and you'll be amazed how it clears the decks and allows people to get on with the fun, creative stuff.

The stuff they get paid to produce.
