INNOVATION vs. IMPLEMENTATION
I was reading a Harvard Business Review article earlier today about creativity vs. implementation and I found it fascinating, and of course, it got me thinking....
It is something I saw so often in my corporate career, where some functions in (certain) organisations are valued above others - even though everyone may be contributing to the same overall goal. All pieces of the jigsaw are needed.
And then I started thinking about the entrepreneurs who I have been hanging out with recently and I see people full of ideas and innovation - of course if you are this way inclined you don't fit in a box so entrepreneurship is very attractive and if you are a "solver of problems" it makes sense that you will think of all the ways around it in order to create the future you and/or your client desires.
I went to a Virtual Dinner Party recently (I LOVED that!) but there we were talking that we each have a dominant archetype:
The Artist
The Manager
The Marketer
And suddenly it made so much sense!
Why so many awesome ideas never get to see the light of day!
Having spent since 2005 in Management Consultancy and Project Management roles (as well as my own business), I know the value and importance of converting these amazing ideas into a saleable product or service and importantly HOW to take the idea from a person's head and get it to a *profitable* source of income for a business.
One difference in my mind, between entrepreneurship and self-employment is the recognition that it takes a team of experts to deliver excellence. The rules of business, finance and competitive markets apply equally to entrepreneurs as anyone else.
