• Track and Trace App - Things to consider

    Public Health England is about to release the Track and Trace app that is free to download for the public.

    For employers who use lockers such as manufacturers and construction industries, this may cause a problem.

    The app relies on low powered bluetooth technology with a ping sent every 3.6 minutes. Imagine leaving a phone in a work locker?

    Now imagine 50 phones in lockers...

    Imagine all 50 phones have installed the app....

    Now imagine how you will replace the 50 workers sent home via Track and Trace next week because the phones were all less than 2 metres for a 4 hour / 6 hour / 8 hour / 12 hour work period?

    Although the app means well I am sure, there are practical issues that have not been considered here.

    Our advice is simple:

    (A) Although not ideal, do not download the app if you continue to work with others (employers may have a challenge with this recommendation), or;

    (B) Ask all employees to switch phones off before placing in lockers to avoid false pings (probably the easiest option).
