Face-Fit Testing for Care and Medical Professionals
HSE and PHE have been slammed by the Royal College of Nursing for advising employers to "re-use single use face masks."
Only under exceptional circumstances should this advice be used according to the HSE. However, many care agencies and medical professionals are stockpiling RPE masks and not issuing them to their staff.
If a mask carries the initials "NR" this stands for non-reusable and should only be used for one shift and (more preferable) per one patient / service user.
In all instances of RPE being used you should ensure that employees are face-fit tested with any RPE masks to keep them (and the patients / service users) safe.
If you are unsure, please call for some free advice.
Stay safe out there!
