ASIA
Asian stocks were mixed as investors turned their focus to earnings reports and the upcoming US jobs data, while continuing to monitor developments in trade talks.
US
US stocks fell as declining oil prices weighted on energy companies and dragged major indexes lower.
UK
UK stocks ended lower for the third straight session as copper miners fell and exporter stocks struggled despite weakness in sterling.

Headlines
HSBC Holdings Plc Chief Executive Officer John Flint took steps to address investor doubts about his ability to increase revenue faster than costs, delivering first-quarter profit that comfortably beat analysts’ estimates.

European Central Bank officials expressed confidence over the euro area’s brightening economic outlook, while hinting at differing preferences for the speed at which monetary policy should respond to recent improvements.

Market prices will reflect the last closing prices with the exception of the Asian markets which may be still trading at the time the data is obtained. The data for these markets is therefore a snapshot of live trading data obtained between 06.45 and 07.15 GMT. Growth is shown cumulative and is not annualised. A positive currency movement indicates the £ appreciating against the other currency. Performance data does not account for the re-investment of dividends.
